My Malta Holiday

Taormina

I am just back from a week away in Malta and I have to say, I’m missing it already. The heat was pretty intense and most days I took it upon myself to laze around the pool, even the water was warm which was a first is for me!

I stayed near the Golden Bay Beach in the Santana Hotel in Qawra and the place is fantastic. I would definitely recommend it and Chevron who I got a late deal with to get to Malta at https://www.chevron.co.uk/malta-hotels/qawra/santana-hotel.

The bay itself is a bit of a drive away from other resorts, although with Malta being quite small and the busses being easy to navigate nothing is too far away. Lots of people travel to the beach so there is always a bit of a buzz but the hotel has a private section too so you are pretty much guaranteed to get a sunbed.

I have been to Malta before a few times and it is great for family summer holidays. Taking a trip into the capital of Valetta also opens up a lot of possibilities for people looking for a bit of night life or shopping.

The highlight of my holiday was taking a trip over to Sicily, it is only a few hours on a ferry and it is well worth it.

We went on the Godfather tour that takes in the small town of Savoca that featured in the film when Michael is in Sicily. After seeing the café and church that were in the film we had some time to wander about and visited the Catacombs of the Capuchin Monks, that was quite an experience.

Following this we were taken to Taormina to spend some time in the shops, cafes and restaurants. The town is perched on the steep hills overlooking the Mediterranean and the views are spectacular. What really got me about Sicily was the abundance of life, from animals to plants and flowers. Most hot countries I visit tend to have a sort of barren appearance but Sicily was bursting with life.

If you are going to be visiting Sicily my top would be to try the lemon gelato, it is so refreshing I could not stop eating it!

All in all it was a great trip, we got to see a bit more of Malta and if I go back I think I would try and stay in Valetta to enjoy a different experience. I have been spending a bit of time looking for good hotels in Malta and was recommended this company so I might give them a shot next year, we will have to wait and see.

Malta gets a definite thumbs up from me and I think whether you are with a family, a couple or going yourself to see some interesting sights it will be well worth it for you.
