I was thinking to myself the other week that – the UK has some of the best stadiums in the world which are also multi purpose. We have some of the biggest sports teams around who’s stadia is world class that also holds various events including music concerts, football, rugby and even Olympic sports.
Look at the likes of Manchester Utd’s Old Trafford that has a capacity of around 80,000. It’s hosted various events over the years including the recent Soccer Aid match that pitted an English Celebrity 11 against a World 11.
Another ground which has seen its fair share of events is Wembley Stadium. The redeveloped ground is the home of the English National Team with a a huge potential crowd filler of around 90,000. The likes of Beyonce, Rihanna, Coldplay and Colts at the Jags (American Football) are the events taking place this summer. Probably one of the best stadia’s to take in a concert in my opinion.
Looking further north to Scotland, you have the old Hampden Park ground. With a capacity of 51,000 it’s one of the biggest stadiums in the country. Known as the home ground of Scotland, many other type of events take place here including the upcoming Beyonce concert which takes place in July. The likes of Bruce Springsteen also had a concert at the ground recently.
Looking to Wales, the Millennium Stadium (currently called the Principality Stadium for sponsorship reasons) is the ground of Wales Rugby Team. The ground has retractable roof – obviously as the weather in Cardiff is unpredictable. Events including Speedway GP, Monster Jam and Beyonce are the big events taking place over the next few months.
Here are the grounds I spoke about above – cool or what!
